Introduction

The map tab provides a consistent look and feel for spatial information in Functional Locations, Equipment, Notifications and Orders.

Important Information

Concepts around this functionality are explained in the topic Maps - Map Layers. Concepts and available controls in the visible map are explained here map. The Map Tab was introduced in BlueWorx Support Pack 7 and replaces mini map that used to be available within these objects, and extends available functionality to include configurable map layers.

Map Functions

The following screen fields and controls are defined, where not documented they are considered self explanatory or are explained elsewhere:

Field/ ControlExplanation/ Use
Filter

Type text to filter the list, operation is consistent with other free text filters in BlueWorx:

Edit - Map buttonEdit a location using the map. Requires the map to be available, either through prior download or being online. Where offline and without a map, use the Edit - GPS function.

After selection you'll get a map screen like this:
Select the top right icon as highlighted, and select the Feature type you want to create:

The shape you choose will determine the steps required:

  • Point Shape - This is a single point. To use; select on the map where you want and then select the Complete button at the bottom of the screen
  • Line Shape - This is a series of two or more points, it covers a line that has a distance. To use; select each point of the line you want to map until the end and then select the Complete button at the bottom of the screen
  • Polygon Shape - This is a series of at least three points that join back to themselves, they cover an area. In BlueWorx you should avoid shapes that intersect themselves (i.e. no figure 8's). To use; select each point around the perimeter of the shape until you get to the point closest to your starting position. Then select the Complete button at the bottom of the screen, it will close the polygon for you by joining your last and first points.

Here's what creating a Line looks like:

On Complete the following dialog is provided to add detail:

Differences between Desktop and Mobile

When you're operating BlueWorx on a mobile device, rather than moving a mouse pointer, a cross-hairs is provided which stays static and you move the map underneath it. You then use the + button the add points rather than a mouse click. Here's how that looks on a phone:

Edit - GPS buttonIf you don't have a map available, and/ or want to 'walk or drive the ground' to capture more accurate locations, you can use the Edit - GPS option:

Using it you can add a single or series of points (depending on the type of layer you selected). The entries will default to your current location:

Having captured point/s, you can the edit them. You might, for example use this where your mobile device accuracy is not great and you have a more accurate device reading available:

Map button

Selecting the Map button will take you to a map displaying the bounds of all the spatial features. If there are none, then it will take you to your current location. The map displayed is the same as that used elsewhere in BlueWorx, its functions are detailed in the following article Map Page

Selecting the Detail icon from a list row will bring up the details for the item.

Important: It's through the use of this function that you signal that Actions are Complete. Optionally in BlueWorx Administration you can prohibit the completion of Work Orders with open Actions, meaning you either have to Complete them:

OR Edit then and allocate them to an existing Notification or Order or a new Notification. When creating a new Notification the associated Equipment or Functional Location is automatically populated:

Select List Row

When selecting a list row, you are navigated to that specific item on the map, without other features:

Selecting an item will display details of the feature/ Action/ Annoation from which you perform follow-on actions as appropriate:

Example - FL and Equipment Tab

The Map Tab in a FL or Equipment record can contain optional the Location of the Asset or Annotations about it. In this case we have a linear asset, a road, plus two annotations:

Note that when a feature has been inherited an icon shows up to indicate it.

And here's these items shown on a map.

Then zoomed in:

Example - Notification and Order Tab

The Map Tab in a Notification or Order displays the map data from the FL or Equipment for the record and, for Orders, those FL and Equipment in the Objects List. In addition, for Orders, any Actions from related Notifications are also shown. See the Map Layers linked article in the introduction section for an explanation of this.

Here's an example with a Planned Inspection. showing the Equipment to inspect, along with its Functional Location spatial location and annotations:

Coming from this:

And here's an example from reactive maintenance at the same Functional Location where work resulted from actions gathered in a Notification:

The Actions are coming from this Notification:
