Introduction

If your organization uses Work Permits then you can turn this functionality on using this setting.

Business and SAP Context

Permits can be used in SAP for a variety of reasons - including Safety, Regulatory and Quality and Process related. Permits can be maintained to be adopted from Functional Location and Equipment records for adoption in Work Orders.

Notifications and Permits

SAP does not provide for Permits for Notifications. That's because in the standard use of SAP Orders are the actionable item that's follows a Notification. In a practical sense however it follows that if a Permit is required for work to be undertaken then is might he helpful from a safety and investigation perspective to allow personnel to see that when creating Notifications for assets with permits maintained. That's what BlueWorx does, it doesn't prohibit the creation of Notifications with related permits, as it can do for Work Orders, but does warn the User of their existence on creation and on the Permits tab where the Permit type is marked as 'Propose Permit' settings for the Permit/ FL or Equipment.

Important Information

  1. Administrators must also run and regularly schedule a new SAP job to populate and update this information. Updates to Equipment permits will update the permit information without the scheduled job, FL permit updates, without other elements being updated, will not. That's because SAP is not recognizing changes of this nature for FL updates - hence the need to regularly run this job (if Permits are used on FL's).
  2. Without having the configuration option Work Orders and Notifications - Take all Technical Objects selected to ON you risk not getting Permit information under some circumstances. Given the nature of permit functionality ensure that you have that configuration switch set to On.
